Environment

NetIQ AppManager 6.x
NetIQ AppManager 7.0.x

Situation

NetIQ Client Communication Manager (CCM) Service will not start.
Error: 'ODBC Error : Error connecting to driver: IM002 - [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified.'

Resolution

The NetIQccm service requires an ODBC connection to write to the local repository (and MS Access database).  To enable this communication, the server where the NetIQ Agent installed must have a System DSN.

To Create a ODBC Connection for the System DSN (Microsoft Windows 2000\Microsoft Windows 2003):

  1. Go to Start | Programs | Administrative Tools | Data Sources (ODBC).
  2. Click the System DSN tab.
  3. Verify if you have the listing of Local-Repository in the System Data Sources: column.  If not, Click Add.
  4. Scroll down and select the Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb).
  5. Click Finish.
  6. Type Local-Repository in the Data Source Name.
  7. Click Select... and browse to %system root%\Program Files\NetIQ\AppManager\db.
  8. Select the Local-Repository in the left-pane.
  9. Click OK to finish the properties definition.
  10. Click OK to complete the ODBC Microsoft Access Setup window.
  11. Restart your NetIQccm service.

Cause

An ODBC connection (System DSN) is not available for the NetIQ Agent to connect to the local-repository.

Additional Information

Formerly known as NETIQKB43962

If you already have a System DSN for the Local-Repository, verify the settings and location of the Local-Repository.mdb specified within the existing DSN matches the default location above.
