Resolution

goal
Why is it important to migrate custom recipients and distribution lists in an Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2000/Exchange 2003 Intra-Org (site to site) migration scenario?

goal
Do I need to migrate custom recipients and distributions lists from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2000/Exchange 2003 (in an intra-org/site-to-site migration scenario)?

fact
Exchange Migrator 2.x

fix
Although the Active Directory Connector (ADC) can create groups for Exchange 5.5 distribution lists and Contacts for Exchange 5.5 custom recipients as pointers in the Active Directory, these ADC-created (Place Holder) objects still reference the source object.  This reference to the source object can be seen by referencing the LegacyExchangeDN on the target ADC-created objects.  You will notice the LegacyExchangeDN references the source Exchange site.  To update the LegacyExchangeDN to reference the target (E2K/E2K3) Administrative Group, you will need to migrate these objects.
