Situation

What is the best practice for setting job intervals for the 'SyncPoll' and 'SyncPollTable' knowledge scripts?

Resolution

The SyncPoll and SyncPollTable knowledge scripts provide parameters for Polling Attempts and Polling Interval. Multiplying these two values calculates how long the job will take to execute if it is dropped on one device. If the job is dropped on more than one device, one must also multiply by the number of devices on which the job is dropped. This is because the Poll scripts iteratively poll the devices on which they are dropped, rather than polling all of them concurrently.

The default values are 12 Polling Attempts at 5-second intervals, which equals 1 minute for the job to complete. So, setting the job interval to 1 minute will result in nearly continuous polling of the SNMP Device with data points reported at one-minute intervals.
