What does it mean to do 'Generic SNMP Monitoring'?

The NetIQ AppManager for SNMP module has no inherent knowledge about what to monitor on any SNMP Device. Running the Discovery_Snmp Knowledge Script determines only that an SNMP Device exists.

Knowledge Scripts provided with the module allow the customer great flexibility in monitoring information available in an SNMP Agent by specifying values in the appropriate parameters in the generic scripts:

  • SNMP ODE/OID?s to be retrieved can be specified.
  • Mathematical conversions can be performed .
  • Thresholds can be checked.

To successfully configure the scripts, in depth knowledge of SNMP is required along with a familiarity of the MIBs that the SNMP Device supports and the data that the SNMP Agent contains.
