Resolution

fact
Domain Migration Administrator 7.x

symptom
DMA hangs after clicking 'Next' in the 'Translate Security Settings' Wizard.

cause

After clicking Next on the account selection screen in the Translate Security Settings and Translate Security for Accounts with Sid History wizards, DMA will then process the selected accounts to determine if the Analyze functionality should be enabled.

If any of the Security References reports have been previously run, DMA will query the database for this information and compare it to the accounts that were selected. If it finds that the accounts selected do indeed have entries in the database referring to existing permissions, the Analyze button will be enabled on the next screen. If there is a large amount of data returned from the Security Reference reports, this can cause DMA to appear to hang at this particular point in the wizard.

fix

There are two solutions to this issue:

Time Management

If you are planning to use the Analyze functionality or you need to maintain the Security Reference information for reporting purposes, you will need to allow Domain Migration Administrator (DMA) enough time to resolve the account information and bring up the next screen.

Deleting Security Reference Report Information

If you are not planning to use the Analyze functionality and you do not need any of the Security Reference Report information, you can safely delete this information and it will speed up the transition in the wizard. To do this:

    1. Using Microsoft Access, open the Protar.mdb.(\Program Files\NetIQ\DMA\Protar.mdb).
    2. In the left-hand pane, select Tables.
    3. Right-click the AccountRefs table.
    4. Select Copy.
    5. Right click somewhere in the white/blank area of the Access window.
    6. Select Paste.
    7. Give the table a name (e.g. AccountRefsBackup).
    8. Select the Structure and Data option.
    9. Click OK.
    10. Double-click the AccountRefs table.
    11. Go to Edit | Select All Records.
    12. Go to Edit | Delete.
    13. Confirm to delete all records.

You should then be able to proceed through the translation wizard.
