Failed to Install Agent - RPC Server Unavailable.

symptom
Cannot install Agent on Windows XP SP2 ( Service Pack 2 ) machine.

cause
Installing Windows XP SP2 turns on the Internet Connection Firewall Protection and updates the behavior of RPC communications. If Internet Connection Firewall Protection and Disable all exceptions are both enabled, DMA cannot dispatch the Agent.

fix

Warning: This has not been through QE testing - other issues may arise after the agent is successfully installed.

To enable DMA to dispatch an Agent, do one of the following:

• Turn off the Firewall Protection - this is the recommended method.
• Allow an exception to enable Port TCP 139, which you can do by either of the following methods:
• Create explicit designation.
• Turn on the File and Print Sharing exception.
