Resolution

fact
Exchange Migrator 2.3

symptom
Distribution Lists are created as new groups in the target rather than merging with the Custom Recipient that was created by EMCLI DIRSYNC.

cause
If you do not select the option to 'Translate source addresses to target domain', Exchange Migrator (EM) creates a new account rather than merging on the existing contact. You will see this in inter Org and intra Org migrations where there are existing mail objects (contacts created by EMCLI DIRSYNC, or users/contacts created by Microsoft Active Directory Connector).

fix

The current workaround for this issue:

  •  Select the option Translate source addresses to target domain on the Email Address Options window within the Migration Options wizard.
