Environment
NetIQ AppManager 6.x
Situation
How do I apply Knowledge Script updates to my existing AppManager installation?
Resolution
Patch Installation Instructions for AppManager Repository and AppManager Agent Machines
AppManager Repository
AppManager patches generally contain Knowledge Scripts that need to updated within the AppManager repository. After downloading a patch:
- Copy the self-extracting executable into a temp directory on your AppManager repository server.
- Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the location of the patch executable you downloaded.
- Double-click on the executable and follow the installation instructions.
- When prompted for the SQL authentication option, please enter the appropriate AppManager Administrator credentials.
Note: If the detection of the QDB server does not occur, please confirm that you are physically logged into the AppManager repository server. If this is confirmed, please contact NetIQ Technical Support for further assistance with the patch installation.
Upgrading Managed Microsoft Windows computers locally
If you have physical access to a managed computer, it is always easier to perform the upgrade at that computer. When you upgrade locally, the upgrade program automatically detects which AppManager components are installed and provides you with easy-to-understand upgrade options.
Centrally updating remote managed Microsoft Windows computers
You can upgrade remote managed computers by running the AMAdmin_MaintenanceInstall Knowledge Script on Microsoft Windows computers where the AppManager 6.0.x Windows agent is installed. The AMAdmin_MaintenanceInstall Knowledge Script detects any managed objects installed on the computer and then upgrades both the existing agent and the existing managed objects.
Note: You cannot run the AMAdmin_MaintenanceInstall Knowledge Script on a computer where the AppManager management server, AppManager console applications (such as the Operator Console), or web management server are running.
To install this Service Pack on a computer with any AppManager componentsother than the AppManager agent, you must run the update program locally on that computer.
Additional Information
If you previously installed the agent with the reporting capabilities provided by the Report Agent option, the upgrade program automatically upgrades the report agent.
This script does not install new agents or managed objects. Existing jobs continue to use their existing Knowledge Script properties.
