Resolution

fact
VigilEnt Security Manager 4.1

fact
NetIQ Vulnerability Manager 5.0

fact
Microsoft Excel

symptom
File/Directory Permissions' report containing a large number of records (80,000+) cannot export to an Excel file.  No files get created.

cause
The cause of this issue is due to the third party export function not being able to create the temporary files needed to perform the export.  Due to the worksheet limitations of Microsoft Excel, multiple files must be created in order to successfully export the report.  In fact, you are prompted to create multiple files when performing the export.  Since there is a "/" slash in the report name, the temporary files are not able to be created as the files include the report name.  Filenames cannot contain a slash.

fix
This issue will be addressed in NetIQ Vulnerability Manager version 5.5.  However, there is a workaround available for VigilEnt Security Manager 4.1 and Vulnerability Manager 5.0.  Please contact NetIQ Technical Support to receive the workaround.
