Resolution
fact
symptom
The option 'Create a new Windows 2000 account for the migrated mailbox' always creates a new account in the target domain.
symptom
A new user account is created in the target domain, even though an Active Directory account with the same SamAccountName or sidHistory already exists.
cause
Checking the option to create a new account for migrated mailboxes always creates a new account when no valid Domain Migration Administrator (DMA) mapping is available, even though you may have a common SamAccountName or sidHistory on the target Active Directory account.
fix
If your intention is to merge mailboxes with Active Directory accounts that have a common SamAccountName or sidHistory, you will need to select the corresponding Windows 2000 account merge option to avoid duplicate accounts being created in Active Directory.
