Error: 'An unhandled exception has occurred. The exception type is System.NullReferenceException'.

symptom
Error occurs when an Assistant Admin attempts to change user passwords from any Directory and Resource Administrator (DRA) console, including the DRA server itself.

cause
There is a problem with retrieving the list of domain controllers (DCs) for the password reset dialog.  The Windows API call is returning NULL for the DnsName.

fix

To resolve this issue:

  1. Run ADSIEDIT to edit the domain controller object in Microsoft Active Directory.
  2. Modify the DNSHostName property of that object.
