Error: 'The procedure entry point ?gpashowlicenseinformation@@YA_NPAUHWND_@@@Z could not be located in dynamic link library GPAUTil.dll'.

symptom
Error occurs when when trying to update license or apply hotfix.

cause

This issue can be caused by one of the following:

• The incorrect dll is registered, or
• Group Policy Administrator (GPA) incorrectly checks licensing during a hotfix installation.

When you perform an upgrade or apply a hotfix, GPA will attempt to verify the license using the GPAUtil.dll.  In certain situations, there may be two copies of GPAUtil.dll, with one file in the wrong location, an incorrect version, or both.

fix

To resolve this issue when applying a license:

1. Perform a search for GPAUtil.dll.  Typically this file is located in the following directories:
   
   
• C:\WINDOWS\System32
• C:\Program Files\NetIQ\Group Policy Administrator 4.0\bin
  


2. Place a copy of the GPAUtil.dll file with the highest version number in the C:\WINDOWS\System32 directory.
3. Run the following command from the C:\WINDOWS\System32 directory to register the dll with the highest version number:
   
   regsvr32 GPAUtil.dll 
   
   
4. Reapply the new license.

Note:  If you receive the error message when applying a hotfix, the above procedure may not resolve the error itself.  Please note that this error message doesnot impact the installation of the hotfix.  (The error message may appear at the completion of the hotfix installation.)
