Resolution

goal
How do I restructure the target public folder hierarchy and continue to synchronize data and permissions after the initial public folder migration using Exchange Migrator?

fact
Exchange Migrator 2.x

fix

If you reorganize synchronized public folders without renaming them, Exchange Migrator can synchronize the reorganized public folders.

To continue to synchronize reorganized target public folders perform the following task:

  1. Use Exchange Migrator to migrate the public folders you want to synchronize.
  2. Reorganize the public folders using a tool, such as Microsoft Outlook.
  3. UPDATE the TargetContainer column of the MigrationInfo table of the Exchange Migrator SQL/MSDE database.

You may want to list the updated target public folder paths and then use a script to update the public folder location in the Exchange Migrator database. By default the Exchange Migrator database is called EMA and is stored in the NetIQ\Exchange Migrator folder on the computer where Exchange Migrator is installed.

note
NetIQ Technical Support does not have a sample of a script that would help automate the process of updating the public folder paths in the EMA database.  For help authoring a script that would provide an automated process of updating the public folder paths, please contact your NetIQ sales person and ask about our fee based Professional Services.
