Environment

NetIQ AppManager 6.0.x
Microsoft Windows 2003

Situation

AMAdmin_AgentInstall knowledge script on a Windows 2000 or 2003 machine generates the following event: ERROR: Invalid AppManager i386 distribution directory
Amadmin_AgentInstall knowledge script on a Windows 2000 or 2003 machine generates the following event: ERROR: Invalid Network name for Distribution directory.
Amadmin_AgentInstall knowledge script on a Windows 2000 or 2003 machine generates the following event: Invalid input:...
Unable to successfully complete Amadmin_AgentInstall knowledge script on Microsoft Windows 2000 or Microsoft Windows 2003 machines
Amadmin_AgentInstall copies over the NetIQ bootstrap files (4 files copied to the default c:temp\atinst\agtinst directory), but when those files try to spawn the nqexecd service on the target machine, install fails.

Resolution

Enable Secondary Logon Service and  Remote Registry Service options for the target agent machines.

Cause

Microsoft Windows 2003 provides options for "logon as secondary user" and "remote registry service".  These services enable AppManager to start our installation processes under alternate credentials. If these options are disabled on the local machine or via a Group Policy, this type of logon access will be unavailable and the installation will fail with various error messages.
