In versions prior to 5.0, You cannot install the Group Policy Administrator (GPA) Repository on a non-default instance of SQL.  If the Repository is installed on another instance, the GPA console will be unable to connect to the database.

Begining with version 5.0, Group Policy Administrator supports the use of a named instance of SQL for the Repository.
