Resolution

goal
How do I run the module as a non-root user?

fact
AppManager 5.x

fact
WebSphereAppSrvUNIX

fact
WebSphere Application Server 4.x

fact
WebSphere Application Server 5.x

fix
The WebSphereAppSrvUNIX module is capable of running as a non-root user, but you must ensure that the user has permission to execute WebSphere utilities (in particular, wscp.sh, wsadmin.sh, startServer.sh, stopServer.sh, and serverStatus.sh).  In addition, you must ensure that any log files that these utilities write to are writable by the chosen user.  This includes log files in the directory hierarchies rooted at both WebSphere/AppServer/logs and WebSphere/AppServer/tranlog.  Note that in some cases the log files will not exist and will be created by the utilities, so the directories themselves must be writable to allow new files to be created.
