Resolution
Domain Migration Administrator 7.x
symptom
ERROR: 'Please select a suffix that is different from your non-collision renaming suffix' when specifying the same suffix in 'Rename Options and Naming Conflicts' of Migration Settings Wizard.
cause
When migrating global groups from NT4 to Active Directory a specified suffix is added to all groups when migrated, whether a name conflict existed or not. The suffix was specified in the Rename Options window of the Migration Settings Wizard and then entered in the Naming Conflicts window. This operation is not allowed and the error message above is displayed.
fix
This is by design. For example, a suffix (-SUF) would be added to the global group first and then the naming conflict would be checked. If using both renaming options, a different suffix would be needed to differentiate the account, otherwise you would end up with a result such as GlobalGroup-SUF-SUF.
note
The following information can be found in the Collision Handling section of the Domain Migration Administration and Server Consolidator Product Help:
Collision handling is processed after the global renaming option. If you migrate accounts with a global prefix or suffix, naming collisions occur for only migrated accounts that match after the global prefix or suffix is added.
