Resolution

fact
Directory and Resource Administrator 6.60

fact
Directory and Resource Administrator 7.x

symptom
Error: 'Home directory is not in an acceptable format' when creating or cloning a user account.

symptom
Unable to create or clone user accounts with a Home Directory specified.

cause

The above error may occur if there is an orphaned machine account in another managed domain, with the same name as the one specified in the home directory path.  The Home Directory trigger queries the Accounts Provider to find an account for the computer where Directory and Resource Administrator (DRA) is trying to create the Home Directory.  If the orphaned machine is in the managed domain listed first alphabetically, the Account Provider returns the account from the incorrect domain and thus DRA attempts to connect to that computer to create the home directory.

fix

A ticket has been opened with development to consider addressing this issue in a future release of the product.

The issue can be resolved by performing either one of the following as a workaround:

  • Rename or delete the computer account from the first managed domain if its a dummy\orphaned account which is not being used.
  • Set the ACL on the parent share to give the MCS Onepoint Admin Service Account full control.
