fact
Directory and Resource Administrator 6.x

fact
Directory and Resource Administrator 7.x

symptom
Error: 'Problem with last multi-master synch' is Displayed in the Multi-Master Statistics tab.

symptom
Error: 'The primary will not be updated because the new primary name is the same as the old one' when adding a Secondary Directory and Resource Administrator server to a Multi-Master Set.

symptom

The following event is logged in the Application log on the Primary Directory and Resource Administrator (DRA) server:

The secondary server was added to the list of secondary servers. However, the attempt to update the primary location on the new secondary server failed, with the following error 'hr=c004351c=(The primary will not be updated because the new primary name is the same as the old one)'. The DRA data has not been replicated to the new secondary.

The reasons for failing to update the primary on the new secondary could be:

DRA server is not running on the secondary.
Secondary access account does not have sufficient powers. The secondary access account should be the DRA service account on the secondary.

Replicate to the new secondary server after correcting the problem.

cause

The issue is caused due to the following reasons:

  • The MCS OnePoint Administration Server (DRA 6.x)/NetIQ DRA Administration Service (DRA 7.x) on the secondary server is not running.
  • The ADMIN$ share has been removed from the secondary.

fix

The issue can be corrected by enabling the ADMIN$ share on the secondary DRA server and\or by verifying that the DRA Server (MCS OnePoint Administration Server or NetIQ Administration Service) service is running.
