Environment

NetIQ AppManager 6.x
NetIQ AppManager 7.0.x

Situation

How do I get AppManager Upgrades and Service Packs to be supported on multiple QDBs on the same instance of SQL server?

Resolution

This behavior is by design.  The AppManager Repository Database (QDB) is a very high use database.  Attempting to run multiple QDBs on a single instance of SQL would require all of those QDBs to share CPU and Memory resources, which could severely impede functionality.

Thus the product is not designed to handle such a configuration, and should not be configured in this manner.  Each QDB should have it's own SQL Server or SQL Server Instance, independant of all other QDBs.

Cause

AppManager upgrades and service packs do not support multiple QDBs on the same instance of SQL server.  In a multiple QDB environment, all QDB's need to be running on separate SQL Instances, or on separate SQL Servers, in order to upgrade any QDB.
