Error:'The instruction at "ox77fcb3ad" referenced memory at 0x00000000.  The memory could not be written.  Click on OK to terminate the program.'  When Attempting to View the Properties of a GPO Exported from the Repository to Active Directory

GPOs become corrupted when they are exported from the Repository to Active Directory.

cause
This problem is caused by changes introduced in Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 in which the GptTmpl.inf file for any GPO exported from the Repository to Active Directory using a Windows 2000 SP4 client is truncated.

fix

Hotfix Q34200 Hotfix Q34200 corrects the issue above issue:

Installation: To install this hotfix, run GPA300000_HotfixQ34200.exe on the computers that have the GPA consoles (MMC Snap-ins) with consolidated hotfix Q26953B installed. This hotfix does not contain any updates for the Repository Server Components or Database, so you do not need to install the hotfix on computers that do not have the GPA MMC consoles installed.

Prerequisites: This hotfix requires that the consolidated hotfix Q26953B has been previously installed.

Contains: This hotfix modifies the following files on the computers that have the GPA consoles installed:

  • faGPRInterface.dll
  • PolicyAuditing.dll
