Error: 'Page cannot be found'  when clicking the Browse option to specify a User or Group who can join the Computer to the Domain using the Web Console.

symptom

After applying hotfix DRA66000_Hotfix26323a.exe to expose the who can join computer account to the domain field in the Web Console, the following error message is displayed when an Assistant Admin clicks on the Browse button to populate the User or group who can join the computer to the domain field during the creation of a computer account using the Web Console:

Page cannot be found

The page you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or its temporarily unavailable.

HTTP 404 - File not found
Internet Information Services

cause
The above described problem is caused because the maximum URL length for Internet Explorer is 2,048 characters.  The URL for the browse window returned, exceeds this limit.  This situation is caused if there are a large number of trusted domains that the Assistant Admin can enumerate. The Web Console stacks all of those trusted domain paths and names into the querystring. This causes the URL to be too long for Internet Explorer to process.

fix

The following workarounds are available for this problem:

  • Use the Directory and Resource Administrator MMC console to create computer accounts where the Who can join computer to the domain field needs to be modified. Use pre-task triggers to populate the Who can join computer to the domain field.
  • Login as an Assistant Admin who does not have access to enumerate all the trusted and managed domains.

This issue is resolved in Directory and Resource Administrator 7.0 and later.
