Resolution

fact
VigilEnt Security Manager 4.X

fact
VigilEnt Security Agent for Windows 3.X

symptom
The MAXSIZE parameter value in the 'Directories with large disk usage' report is incorrect.

cause
The cause of this is due to the way VigilEnt Security Agent for Windows evaluates the request.  The agent only looks at file contents within the directories on the system.  If the directories contain any subfolders, these subfolders are not evaluated.  For example, user Jim has a home folder structure as follows:

\Jim           10 MB
\Data           30 MB
\Mail            30 MB
\Docs           50 MB

When running the report against the root server, drive c:\, where all home shares are located with a MAXSIZE specified of 100 MB, Jim's home folder is not returned.  This is because the Jim folder only contains 10 MB of files.  However, the entire Jim folder, when including his subfolders, equals well over the 100 MB specification (120 MB).  This report does not evaluate the subfolders.

fix
A feature request has been submitted to the Development team for VigilEnt Security Agent for Windows to include subfolders when evaluating directories for large disk usage.  This request will be considered for a future release of the product.
