Data access error received when attempting to log into the Console.

Error: 'Data access error occurred. Cannot open database requested in login 'vigilent'.  Login failed'.


Error: 'A data access error occurred (Error code 0).

Error Source:  Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers

Error information:  [Microsoft] [ODBC SQL Server Driver] [SQL Server] Cannot open database requested in login 'vigilent'.  Login failed.'

This error occurs if the permissions are improperly configured within SQL Server.


To resolve the above error, please logon to the SQL Server with an account with Administrative permissions and follow the steps below:

  1. Click Start | Programs | Microsoft SQL Server | Enterprise Manager.
  2. Expand the SQL Server Group node.
  3. Under the SQL Server node, expand the Security folder.
  4. Click the Logins node.
  5. Right-Click the VigilEnt_Users group and select Properties.
  6. Click the Database Access tab.
  7. Verify that the VigilEnt database is selected.
  8. Repeat steps 5 thru 7 for both the VigilEntService and the VSMConsole users.

Although not always necessary, the VigilEnt Security Service may need to be restarted.
