symptom
Error: 'Error generating report: RegistryKeyOpenFailure: The system cannot find the file specified.'

cause
The permissions granted to the Windows Agent service are being denied access to the registry value, or parameters entered for subkey and/or value refer to a key that does not exist.

fix

To correct this you must use an account with domain administrator privileges and/or confirm that the registry key information is entered correctly.

To start the agent with an administrator account follow the instructions below:

  1. Go to Start|Settings|Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Administrative Tools.
  3. For Windows XP and Windows 2003 double-click Computer Management and select Services. For Windows 2000 go right to Services.
  4. For version 4.0 or earlier locate the VigilEnt Security Agent for Windows service. For Ver. 5.0 locate the NetIQ VigilEnt Agent service. Right-click and select Properties.
  5. On the Logon tab, select the Start As check box.
  6. Enter an account that has domain administrator authority and the password and click OK.
  7. Restart the service. For instructions on restarting a service see NETIQKB25651.

You should also verify that the registry key information has been entered correctly.

EXAMPLE:

If the registry key you are querying is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Pentasafe\VSANT\Version  you would enter it as follows:

KEY*  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

SUBKEY*  Software\Pentasafe\Software\VSANT

VALUE*  Version
