An error is received in the Application Event Log when performing a Synchronize Server Users on a Microsoft Windows BDC in VigilEnt Security Manager.

symptom

The following Event is written to the Application Event Log:

Source PSNTAgent
Type Information
Category None
Description
The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source (PSNTAgent ) could not be found. It contains the following insertion string(s): com.ms.com.ComFailException: (0x800401e4) Invalid syntax.

cause
This error is caused by an incorrect configuration of the system or BDC.  This occurs when a BDC is defined as a Window Domain type in VigilEnt Security Manager.

fix

To resolve the above error, log into the VigilEnt Security Manager console as an Administrator and perform the following steps:

1. Within the tree view in the upper left pane, click Servers node.
   
2. In the upper right pane, right- click the System and select Properties.
   
3. Within the 'Operating System' section, change the 'OS Type' to Windows Machine.
   
4. Click OK.
