symptom
Error: 'Target machine not in the same domain'.

cause
This message will occur when VigilEnt Security Manager and the VigilEnt Security Agent for Windows are both installed on a single machine that is not a member of a domain because the agent is checking for domain membership.

fix

To prevent the VigilEnt Security Agent for Windows from checking for domain membership do the following:

  1. Click Start | Run. 
  2. Type regedit.
  3. Navigate to HKEY_Local_machine\SOFTWARE\Pentasafe\VSANT
  4. Create a new DWORD Value called DomainCheck by right-clicking on VSANT and choosing New.
  5. Choose DWORD.
  6. Type DomainCheck for the name and leave the Value at the default of 0.
  7. Close the registry.
  8. Stop and restart the VigilEnt Security Agent for Windows service.
