Why do I get "The credentials supplied conflict with an existing set of credentials" when pushing in (NETIQKB31629)

symptom
Error: 'The credentials supplied conflict with an existing set of credentials' received when deploying the VigilEnt Security Agent for Windows to a Windows 2000 machine.

cause
Windows 2000 allows userids to contain spaces. If the account that is used to deploy the agent on the remote machine(s) contains spaces, the install will return this error.

fix
The workaround for this for versions prior to 3.0 is to rename the user account and remove the space(s).
