Using the Service Monitor Utility, services can be monitored and alert you if they stop. This function can be configured during local software installation or during remote deployment.  In addition, the this utility can be set up via the command prompt.  Please refer to the following steps:

  1. Click Start | Run and open a command prompt.
  2. Change Directory (CD) to the following directory:
    • \%Program Files%\PentaSafe\RInstall\pss

  3. Enter vsacfg /HOSTNAME localhost, where localhost is the name of the computer on which you want to monitor services.  The Alerts dialog box is displayed.
  4. In the left pane, note that Monitored Services is expanded by default, and that the VigilEnt Detect service is listed beneath it.
  5. Expand VigilEnt Detect and note the notification options listed:
    • VigilEnt Security Manager - This selection is used to configure the Service Monitor Utility to send alerts to a machine running VigilEnt Security Server (Core Services).  These notifications will appear in the 'Alert' section of VigilEnt Security Manager.
    • SNMP Trap - This selection is used to configure the Service Monitor Utility to send SNMP traps to an SNMP host on the network.
    • Email Notifications - This selection is used to configure the Service Monitor Utility to send an Email message to a specified Email address on the network.
  6. Choose the desired alert option and enter the appropriate information.
  7. Click OK to close the Alerts dialog and apply the changes to the Windows Agent.
