You do not have to purchase a Java compiler or Java runtime to run the browser component. As part of OS/400, IBM includes for free the 5769-JV1 product. The java compiler is part of the *BASE package, and the version of the Java runtime is an option. To run Java programs on the AS/400, install 5769-JV1 (which gives the CRTJVAPRG command) and one of the optional JDKs. Option 2 is Java 1.1.7 and option 3 is Java 1.2. It can be found on the install media that ships with the machine. It should be on one of the base CDs (those with a B on them… B2924_01, B2924_02, B2924_03).
