VigilEnt Security Agent for VPN-1/FireWall-1 ships with a temporary license key. The temporary license key is valid for up to two months. After that time, the license key expires and the agent will not operate. To continue using the product, you must obtain a permanent license key. NetIQ requires information from the agent machine to generate your permanent license key. Follow the steps below to obtain the information and activate your permanent license key.

To obtain the key information, follow these steps:

If you are running Sun Solaris on the agent machine, follow the steps below to obtain the key information.

1. Navigate to the /usr/bin directory.

2. Type the following command at the command prompt:

   hostid

3. Note the eight character host ID that appears.

If you are running Microsoft Windows on the agent machine, follow the steps below to obtain the key information.

1. Open a command window by clicking Start | Run, type cmd, and click OK.

2. Type the following at the command prompt:

   ipconfig /all

3. Note the last eight characters that appear in the Physical Address value (with out the hyphens). For example, the Physical Address that ipconfig displays may look like the following:

   Physical Address.........: 00-03-47-31-D1-E6

   The characters that NetIQ needs to generate your key are 4731D1E6.

4. Contact your NetIQ sales representative.  He or she will need the eight character host ID or physical address to generate your permanent license key.

To activate your key, follow these steps:

1. Navigate to the VSAF/bin directory on the agent machine.

2. If the key file exists in the bin directory, open it with a text editor. If the key file does not exist, create a new text file for the key.

3. Replace the temporary key with your permanent key (or add the permanent key to the new key file), and save the key file (as ?key?) and close the text editor.

Note: You must remove the temporary key from the key file completely. If you do not, the permanent key may not function properly.
