Resolution

fact
VigilEnt Password Manager for Oracle 5.0

fact
VigilEnt Password Manager for Oracle 6.x

symptom
The 'Next Run Time' and 'Previous Run Time' values are reversed in the VigilEnt Password Manager for Oracle Audit Scanner.

cause
The audit scanner in VigilEnt Password Manager for Oracle reads through the entire sys.aud$ table. By default the audit scanner runs every 3 minutes. It is possible in some older databases for the aud$ table to grow so large that the audit scanner is not able to finish in 3 minutes. When the  'Next Run Time' and 'Previous Run Time' values are reversed, this has occurred; however, the audit scanner will still run and logfails and break-in attempts will still be counted.

fix
To resolve this issue upgrade to the latest version of the product.

note
As of September 26, 2001 - an update was integrated into the release build of the database components. It incorporates a hashing function which speeds up the audit scanner by approximately 100X.

The version of the SQLCQR.SQLCQR_PRIVATE_PACKAGE is updated to 6.1.4.
