Resolution

Always back up the current install as a precautionary measure before updating from VigilEnt Policy Center. Keep these back ups available in case an emergency restoration is needed.

If you are using the VigilEnt Policy Center internal database, follow these steps to complete the back up:

  1. Shut down the VigilEnt Policy Center service.
  2. Copy the contents of the Program Files\NetIQ\VigilEnt Policy Center\Database (by default) directory to another directory (where the back up should reside).

If you are using Microsoft SQL Server 2000, follow these steps to complete the back up:

  1. Shut down the VigilEnt Policy Center service.
  2. Launch Enterprise Manager and locate the 'NetIQVPC' (by default) database.
  3. Right click on the database and select 'All Tasks
  4. Select 'Backup Database' to launch the back up process.
  5. Name your backup accordingly, ensure 'Database - complete' is selected and select the location to store the backup.
  6. Select 'OK'

If you are using Microsoft SQL Server 2005, follow these steps to complete the back up:

  1. Shut down the VigilEnt Policy Center service.
  2. Launch SQL Server Management Studio and locate the 'NetIQVPC' (by default) database.
  3. Right click on the database and select 'Tasks'
  4. Select 'Back Up...' to launch the back up process.
  5. Select back up type of 'Full', name your back up accordingly, and select the location to store the backup.
  6. Select 'OK'
