Resolution

fact
VigilEnt Policy Center 2.X

symptom
Error: 'Please check the Search Base. Make sure the Search Base represents the full distinguished name for the directory tree branch under which VigilEnt Policy Center should search and that the location exists in the LDAP Server.'

symptom
Error occurs when connecting to a generic Lightweight Directory Access Protocol server, Microsoft Exchange Server and others.

fix
Verify the information in the Search Base field. The steps for verification can be found in the following knowledge base article.

https://www.netiq.com/kb/esupport/consumer/esupport.asp?id=NETIQKB30375

When connecting to a generic LDAP server, Microsoft Exchange Server, or Netscape Directory Server, the Search Base should look similar to the following:

o=Companyx.com
ou=people,o=Companyx.com
o=Companyx

When connecting to Microsoft Active Directory, the distinguished name will look similar to the following:

dc=vpctest,dc=Companyx,dc=com

where vpctest.Companyx.com is the domain (dc=domain component).

If your Search Base does not resemble any of the above examples please update accordingly.

note
Fix this error before any other errors. If VigilEnt Policy Center cannot connect to the server, there will be errors when attempting to validate the information in the remaining fields in the User Repository tab.
