Description:
Hotfix 30001 improves scalability and performance issues for web sites with large numbers of static files.

This hotfix is intended for all installations of the VigilEnt Security Agent for Web Servers (VSA for Web Servers) that make use of the web site content archiving mechanism and file modification reporting. The maximum number of files that can be archived is 65535.

Special Notes:
The VSAWS303_Hotfix30001.exe program assumes that the agent is installed and running in a production environment. If you are installing this hotfix as part of a new installation, some additional steps are required as provided below. In all cases, run VSAWS303_Hotfix30001.exe on all computers where VSA for Web Servers components are located, whether it is a web server host where only the agent component resides, or a workstation that hosts the VSA for Web Servers manager server and console.

On web server hosts where the VSA for Web Servers agent is installed and is configured and monitored by an agent console on another workstation, the following files are updated in the agent installation folder. By default, this folder is C:\Program Files\PentaSafe\VSAforWebServers:

  • Patcherrout.log
  • PatchHistory.log
  • agent\htdocs\version.html
  • agent\pams\afpams.jar
  • agent\pams\webpams.jar

On web server hosts where VSA for Web Servers is installed in its full, standard distribution, and/or it serves as a console to agents distributed on other hosts, the following files are updated in the agent installation folder. By default, this folder is C:\Program Files\PentaSafe\VSAforWebServers:

Install Instructions:

To install Hotfix 30001 for VSA for Web Servers in production mode, follow these steps:

  1. Copy VSAWS303_Hotfix30001.exe to the host computer where each agent component is installed.

  2. Stop the agent services on the host, VSA WebServer Agent for an agent-only installation, and VSA WebServer Agent with GUI and VSA WebServer Manager for console installations.

  3. Run VSAWS303_Hotfix30001.exe.

  4. Check the Patcherrout.log and PatchHistory.log files to verify successful installation.

  5. Restart the agent services.


To install Hotfix 30001 as part of a new installation of VSA for Web Servers, follow these steps:

  1. Install both VSA for Web Servers version 3.0.1 and Hotfix 3.0.2.

  2. To initialize the agent environment, start the VSA WebServer Agent with GUI and VSA WebServer Manager services on the computer hosting them.

  3. Start the VSA WebServer Agent service on any web server host that the console is administering. Allow a few minutes for component modules to be pushed from the manager to all agent and GUI components.

  4. Stop all agent component services.

  5. On hosts with only an agent component, ensure the afpams.j.
    ar and webpams.jar files are installed in the \agent\pams folder, typically located in the C:\Program Files\PentaSafe\VSAforWebServers folder.

  6. On hosts with an agent console, ensure the afpams.jar and webpams.jar files are installed in the \guiserver\pams folder, typically located in the C:\Program Files\PentaSafe\VSAforWebServers folder.

  7. Copy VSAWS303_Hotfix30001.exe to the host computer where each agent component is installed.

  8. Run VSAWS303_Hotfix30001.exe.

  9. Check the Patcherrout.log and PatchHistory.log files to verify successful installation.

  10. Restart the agent services.
