Manual Uninstall of VigilEnt Policy Center (VPC)

To manually make sure that VPC is completely removed from the system, take the following steps (Note: this should only be done if the uninstall via ?Add/Remove Programs? has failed):

  1. From a Command prompt, go to the <install dir>\bin .  Execute the following commands to remove the VPC services:
    • Java2Service ?r PentaSafeVPC
    • Java2Service ?r PentaSafeVPCAgent
  2. Run Regedit.  Remove the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PENTASAFE\VigilEnt Policy Center key including all of its values.
  3. If you are using IIS for serving up the Web pages, shut down the IIS service and the content indexing service.
  4. If you are planning to reinstall later, back up the entire VPC directory before deleting it.  (Or just rename it so that you can save time on the reinstall.)
  5. Run the Add/Remove Programs application to remove the VigilEnt Policy Center entry.
  6. If you are using MS SQL Server and want to remove the VPC data, you must remove the PentaSafeVPC database (or whatever you called it when you installed the application) and the vpc_user login (or whatever you called it on install).

Some VPC files are necessary to back up and restore if you?re moving between machines.  These include:

<Install Dir>\database\policy\*.*

Imported documents for versions < 2.0

<Install Dir>\server\doclogs\*.*

XML versions of published documents and a non-repudiable log file

<Install Dir>\server\webapps\policy\images\new_vpc_header_custom.gif

User defined custom graphic for the User site

<Install Dir>\server\webapps\policy\customHeader.htm

User defined custom HTML for the User site

<Install Dir>\server\webapps\VpcAdmin\importDocs\*.*

Imported docs for version 2.0 ? 2.1
