This Knowledge Base article is meant to guide you in the rollback procedures you may need to implement, should your upgrade from VigilEnt Policy Center (VPC) 2.1.x to  3.0 fail.

To initiate the rollback, please do the following:

  1. On the machine that VPC is installed on, go to StartSettings | Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  3. Click VigilEnt Policy Center, then click Change/Remove.
  4. Select Automatic for the Uninstall method.
  5. When asked if you would like to perform a rollback, select Yes.

After the rollback, the following batch files must be ran.  These batch files are located:  C:\Program Files\Pentasafe\VigilEnt Policy Center\Bin.

    • installVPCAgent.bat (This will install the VPCAgent service which establishes communication with the VigilEnt Security Manager console).
    • installVPCService.bat (This will install the VPC service which is the main service for VPC and without this service VPC is non operational).
    • Fix300.bat (This we move back all of the files and restore customization to VPC).
  1. Next copy the server.xml file that was saved in step 2 above into C:\Program Files/Pentasafe/VigilEnt Policy Center/server/conf directory replacing the server.xml file that was there previously.
  2. Open your 'Services' window and start the 'VigilEnt Policy Center' service (VigilEnt Policy Center Agent if using the VSM connectivity).
  3. For InstantDB (i.e. the internal database) if there seems to be any database corruption do the following to get your data back.
    1. Stop the 'VigilEnt Policy Center' service (and the VigilEnt Policy Center Agent service).
    2. Replace the install directory/Pentasafe/VigilEnt Policy Center/database directory with the one that was saved above (please note that the service(s) must be stopped before the file  is replaced).
    3. Restart the services.

To correct the URL's in the Start menu:

  1. Click Programs | Pentasafe | VigilEnt Policy Center | Administration Site orPrograms | Pentasafe | VigilEnt Policy Center | User Site depending on the URL you wish to correct.
  2. Go to the install directory/Pentasafe/VigilEnt Policy Center/bin and edit Administrator (shortcut) with Notepad.
  3. Replace the text after the URL= with the URL written down from above steps.
  4. Go to the install directory/Pentasafe/VigilEnt Policy Center/bin and edit user (shortcut) with Notepad.
  5. Replace the text after the URL= with the URL written down from above steps.
