Error: 'Not all of the prerequisites have been met for the VigilEnt Security Manager program.  The following prerequisites have not been met: * Microsoft SQL Server or MSDE'.

symptom

A prerequisite error is received when attempting to install VigilEnt Security Operations Center in trial mode.



cause
This is caused by an issue in the installation for VigilEnt Security Manager (VSM) version 4.0a.  The installation is looking for Microsoft SQL server or MSDE on the remote machine and will fail if it is not present.

fix
This issue was resolved with VigilEnt Security Manager 4.0b and VigilEnt Security Manager 4.1

As a workaround, follow the steps below to install VigilEnt Security Operations Center using the VSM 4.0a installation CD:

  1. Close the Autorun screen after inserting the VSM 4.0a CD.
  2. Browse to the folder Intel\GA Release\ on the VSM 4.0a CD.
  3. Run the Setup.exe executable.

In running the setup executable directly from the above folder, the install will not look to see if MSSQL or MSDE is installed on the machine.
