Resolution

fact
Directory and Resource Administrator 6.60

symptom
Error:'[8007200B] Error saving the changes to the User. The attribute syntax specified to the directory service is invalid.' When Attempting to Modify the Profile Path Field Using the Web Console

symptom

The following error message is displayed in the Web Console after an Assistant Admin attempts to clear the Profile Path property of a user account:

Error updating properties for username:
[8007200B] Error saving the changes to the User. The attribute syntax specified to the directory service is invalid.

The above error message is only returned if the Assistant Admin attempts to clear the Profile Path field completely, by removing all the data that is currently in the field. The Assistant Admin can modify the data in Profile Path, leaving some data in the field, but cannot clear the field completely and set it to blank using the Web Console.

cause

The Web Console uses the OnePoint ADSI Provider to clear the Profile Path property.  As a result, The OnePoint ADSI provider makes a call by using the PutEx method and this method is incorrectly processed by the Accounts Provider.

fix

The above described issue has been resolved in version 7.0.  To download the latest version of Directory and Resource Administrator, please refer to the following link:

As a workaround if you are running version 6.60 or earlier, the Directory and Resource Administrator MMC interface can be used to clear the Profile Path of the user account.
