How do I enable Audit logging in VigilEnt Policy Center?

To enable Audit logging and set logging options in VigilEnt Policy Center (VPC) refer to the following steps:

 

  1. Click Start | Program Files | PentaSafe | Administration Site.
  2. On the Administration tab, click Options.
  3. Click On in the Logging Enabled field to activate logging.
  4. Click Logging Options.
  5. Select the check box next to each option that you want to apply. The following is a list of available logging options:
    • Administration Site log on  Tracks the date and time that a user logged on to the Administration Site.
    • Administration Site log off - Tracks the date and time that a user logged off from the Administration Site.
    • Administration Site log on failure - Tracks the date and time that a user attempted to log on to the Administration Site, but the logon attempt failed.
    • User Site log on - Tracks the date and time that a user logged on to the User Site.
    • User Site log off - Tracks the date and time that a user logged off from the User Site.
    • User Site log on failure  - Tracks the date and time that a user attempted to log on to the User Site, but the logon attempt failed.
    • Policy documents created/updated - Tracks the date and time that a policy document is created or modified.
    • Quizzes created/update - Tracks the date and time that a quiz is created or modified.
    • Incident reports submitted/updated - Tracks the date and time that a security report is submitted or updated within VPC.
    • News items created/updated - Tracks the date and time that a news item is created or modified.
    • User accounts created/updated - Tracks the date and time that a user account is created or modified.
    • Permissions allowed/denied - Tracks the date and time that any permissions is allowed or denied to a user, group, or role within VPC.
    • Documents acknowledged as read/reviewed - Tracks the date and time that a policy document is read or reviewed by a user on the VPC User Site.
  6. Click Submit.  VPC displays the options that were selected in the Logging Options dialog box on the Logging tab in the Events currently being logged field.
  7. Click Update.

 

To set the log file location:

  1. On the Administration tab, click Options.  VPC displays the Logging tab.
  2. Verify that VPC displays'On' in the Logging Enabled field.
  3. Click I want to log to a file or I want to log to both a file and a database.
  4. In the Logging to field, type the path to which you want to save the logging file.
  5. Click Update and VPC saves any changes. If you clicked I want to log to both a file and a database, VPC displays the Build Logging Report field next to the View Log field.  For information on viewing the information logged in a file or database, see "Viewing an Audit Log." in the User Guide.
