symptom
Multiple Directory and Resource Administrator servers in a 'Multi-Master Set' show up as Primary.

cause
This situation occurs if a Primary Directory and Resource Administrator (DRA) server was taken offline without demoting or removing it from the Multi-Master Set.  When the machine comes back online or another machine with the same NetBIOS name is added to the Multi-Master Set, it is seen as a Primary.  In such a case, the newly promoted DRA server and the old DRA server both show up as Primary.  Attempts to demote or remove either one of the Primary DRA servers from the Multi-Master Set fails.

fix

In order to resolve this issue perform the following steps on the new Primary DRA server:

Before performing the steps mentioned below back up the Security key in the Registy under HKEY_Local_Machine | Software | Mission Critical Software | OnePoint | Administration | Data | Modules.

  1. Launch Regedt32 on the Primary DRA server.
  2. Delete the old_primary_DRA_servername Value under HKEY_Local_Machine | Software | Mission Critical Software | OnePoint | Administration | Data | Modules | Server Configuration | Servers.
  3. Delete the old_primary_DRA_servername Data key under HKEY_Local_Machine | Software | Mission Critical Software | OnePoint | Administration | Modules | Server Configuration | Servers.
  4. Delete the old_primary_DRA_servername Data key under HKEY_Local_Machine | Software | Mission Critical Software | OnePoint | Configuration | Administration | Servers.

Perform the above steps on the old Primary DRA server, which was brought back online deleting the Value and Data keys that reference the new Primary DRA server.  Stop and restart the MCS OnePoint Administration Server service (DRA 6.x)/NetIQ Administration Service (DRA 7.x)  on both the machines.  After the DRA servers complete intialization perform the following steps on the Primary DRA server:

  1. Launch the DRA MMC console (DRA 6.x)/Delegation and Configuration console (DRA 7.x)
  2. Add the old primary DRA server to the Multi-Master Set and synchornize the Multi-Master Set
