fix

The filters are one of the most important and frequently used features of VigilEnt Audit Manager for Sybase. Filters let you place parameters on the audit data you wish to view, separating it from unwanted audit data. The filter option is available in all four of the data windows. Follow the steps below to apply a filter to auditing data.

  1. Click the Filter icon located in the upper-left corner of the screen. The Filter dialog box appears.
  2. Select the name of the column you wish to filter from the list of Filter Columns.
  3. Type a column value into the space next to Expression, and click an operation button to complete the filter expression.
  4. Click Close. Your audit data is updated with the new filter information.

The filter expression is added to the Filter Selections list, and the column is narrowed down. For example, in the ?Action Name? column, typing INSERT and clicking = returns an audit report listing only those audit rows generated by an insert action.

note
When you create a new auditing report, the Filter dialog box opens up automatically after you select columns, and asks you what filters you want to apply.

note
You may only add filters to an open report. Also, the filters available to you are dependent on the type of report you are viewing.

note
You must first type in a column value to enable the operation buttons (=, <>, Like, Not Like).

note
The ?Like? and ?Not Like? operation buttons are used to create wildcard expressions. For example, typing the expression 8:% in the Time column and clicking the ?Like? operations button returns all audit data that occurred during the eighth hour of the day.

note
Some filters have a pre-defined pick list. If the select icon (the pointing hand) is enabled in the Filter dialog box, clicking it reveals a list of column values for the filter column.
