You may need to rollback VigilEnt Policy Center (VPC) if your installation fails, or if you want to return to your previous version.  Verify that a back up version of your database exists before restoring your files.

To back up your database (InstantDB or Internal Database), follow these steps:

  1. Right-click Start, and click Explore.

  2. If you used the VPC default installation path, access the following directory path (otherwise, navigate to your instance of the VigilEnt Policy Center database directory):

    C:\Program Files\PentaSafe\VigilEnt Policy Center\database

  3. Copy the contents of the database folder and paste the information to an area outside of the installation directory path.


To back up information before a rollback, follow these steps:

  1. Right-click Start, and click Explore.

  2. If you used the VPC default installation path, access the following directory path (otherwise, navigate to your instance of the VigilEnt Policy Center \server\conf directory):

    C:\Program Files\PentaSafe\VigilEnt Policy Center\server\conf

  3. Copy the server.xml file and paste the information to an area outside of the installation directory path.

  4. Access the Administration Site and make a note of the URL for later use.

  5. Access the User Site and make a note of the URL for later use.


To recover after a rollback, follow these steps:

  1. Right-click Start, and click Explore.

  2. If you used the VPC default installation path, access the following directory path (otherwise, navigate to your instance of the VigilEnt Policy Center \bin directory):

    C:\Program Files\PentaSafe\VigilEnt Policy Center\bin

  3. Run each of the following files by double-clicking the file name:

    InstallVPCAgent.bat
    InstallVPCService.bat
    Fix300.bat

  4. Copy the server.xml file that you saved in the previous task, and use the file to replace the existing server.xml file in the following location:

    C:\Program Files\PentaSafe\VigilEnt Policy Center\server\conf

  5. Restart your services using the steps in the following task.


To restart your services, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start | Settings | Control Panel.

  2. Double-click Administrative Tools, and double-click Services.

  3. Right-click VigilEnt Policy Center, and click Restart.


To recover after a rollback, if your database is corrupted (Instant DB or Internal Database), follow these steps:

  1. Click Start | Settings | Control Panel.

  2. Double-click Administrative Tools, and double-click Services.

  3. Right-click VigilEnt Policy Center, and click Stop. Leave the Services window open.

  4. Copy the database folder that you saved in the previous task, and use the folder to replace the existing database folder in the following location:

    C:\Program Files\PentaSafe\VigilEnt Policy Center\database

  5. Click the Services window.

  6. Right-click VigilEnt Policy Center, and click Start.


To update your Start menu path, follow these steps:

  1. Right-click Start, and click Explore.

  2. If you used the VPC default installation path, access the following directory path (otherwise, navigate to your instance of the VigilEnt Policy Center \bin directory):

    C:\Program Files\PentaSafe\VigilEnt Policy Center\binde>

  3. Right-click Administrator, and click Properties.

  4. Change the information in the URL field to the address that you noted when backing up your database.

  5. Click OK.

  6. Right-click User, and click Properties.

  7. Change the information in the URL field to the address that you noted when backing up your database.

  8. Click OK.
