Error: 'Unable to connect to Exchange_server_name' when cloning a Microsoft Exchange 5.5 Mailbox.

When cloning an Exchange 5.5 mailbox, using the Directory and Resource Administrator MMC interface, the Assistant Admin may receive the error above and will not be able to to complete the operation.

MS Exchange 5.5 lists the Exchange servers of particular site in alphabetical order.  This issue occurs when the first Exchange server in that list is unavailable for any reason.  Even if the Preferred Exchange 5.5 server is functioning properly, Directory and Resource Administrator uses the first server in the list to perform operation.


In order to resolve this issue in the current release of Directory and Resource Administrator (DRA), ensure that the Exchange server listed first in the alphabetical list is available.  To verify which Exchange server is listed first, please refer to the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

This issue is resolved in DRA version 7.0 and later.  In DRA versions 7.x, it will not refer to an alphabetical list.  It will use instead, the specified Preferred Exchange 5.5 server whenever possible.

Directory and Resource Administrator 6.x caches the name of the first Exchange Server in the alphabetical list.  In order to clear the cache, ensure that the Exchange Server is not listed in Microsoft Exchange Administrator client and then restart the MCS OnePoint Administrator Server service.
