Unable to run the 'Compare to AD' report on a GPO in the repository against a GPO in Active Director after performing a non-connected GPO migration.

symptom
Unable to run the 'Compare to AD' report of a newly migrated GPO because the GPO does not exist.

cause
This is the correct behavior.   When migrating the Default Domain Policy GPO from one domain to another in the repository and selecting to create a new GPO in the target, the newly created GPO in the repository will have a unique GUID inside the repository.  Although the Default Domain Policy has the same GUID in every domain, the GUID created in the repository is not unique and does not match up with the target domain GPO.

fix

To resolve this problem perform the following steps:

  1. In the target domain, import the default domain policy from Active Directory.
  2. Right click the source Default Domain policy in the repository and select Migrate GPO.
  3. Select Update Existing GPO and select the target domain's Default Domain Policy.
  4. Run the report "Compare AD version".
