Resolution

Fact

Directory and Resource Administrator 6.60

Symptom

The computer description only displays for a few computers after running the Computers report in the DRA reporting tool.

Cause

The AD description property for a computer versus the browser service comment field has come up several times in the past and is detailed in NETIQKB6032.  The report 'Computers' displays the browser service comment field.  The query for this report is based on the computers table.  This table holds the Browser service comment field and it looks like it does not get this information from the cache but gets it from the browser service directly.  Therefore, if a computer is offline when the import is run, the comment field will be blank for the report.   The Account table in the reporting tool gathers the Active Directory description property for a computer.   The MMC caches the comment field from the browser service unless the computer is offline when the computer was added then it shows the Active Directory property. The result is the cache, the account table, and the computer table are all different.

Fix

This issue has been resolved in Directory and Resource Administrator (DRA) version 7.0 and later.  Upgrade to the latest version of DRA to resolve this issue.
