symptom
Mailbox migration hangs at 'Updating Directory Objects' and mmc.exe consumes a large amount of memory.

cause

This problem is caused by one of the following:

  • EXCHMEM.DLL is missing from the \winnt\system32 directory on the machine running Exchange Migrator.
  • Exchange Migrator is processing a NULL property value when attempting to update properties of the target object. The following entry can be found in EMDevlog.txt: Updating Object() with property LDAP://.....'


fix

If EXCHMEM.DLL is missing from the \winnt\system32 directory:

  1. Close Exchange Migrator.
  2. Copy EXCHMEM.DLL from the \Exchsrvr\bin directory into the \winnt\system32 directory.

To resolve the NULL property issue:

  1. Close Exchange Migrator.
  2. Perform one of the following:

    1. Install Post EM 2.2 Service Pack 1 Hotfix 027949 (https://www.netiq.com/support/em/hotfixes.asp)
    2. Upgrade to Exchange Migrator 2.3 (https://www.netiq.com/support/em/extended/upgrade.asp)
