Resolution

fact
Directory and Resource Administrator 6.x

symptom
Error: 'The operation threw an exception' occurs when clicking the Domain Cache or Resource Cache links in the MMC.

symptom
Error: 'The operation threw an exception.'

symptom
While in the Administration server options, under the Configuration snap-in node, clicking the links to the Domain Cache and the Resource Cache options generates an Internet Explorer exception.  The user can click OK and continue with other tasks.

symptom
The MCS OnePoint Administration Server service is not affected.

cause

This occurs when the job that performs the Domain and Resource Cache Refresh no longer exists.  Directory and Resource Administrator (DRA) manages these tasks with the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mission Critical Software\OnePoint\Administration\Modules\Scheduler\Jobs\ResourceProviderCacheRefresh

If this key is missing, the values it stores are unavailable when the MMC interface attempts to reference them to populate the properties screens of these refreshes.

fix
To resolve this issue, NetIQ Technical Support can assist in transferring this job from another fully-functional Directory and Resource Administrator (DRA) server.  Importing it into the registry on the server with the problem and then restarting the MCS OnePoint Administration Server service will resolve the issue.
