Situation

What does aggregation mean in the NT_ReportMemoryUtilization Knowledge Script?

Resolution

"Aggregation by" is how frequently you want to display the data points. For example, if you're collecting data by the minute, but only care to plot the data by the hour.

"Aggregation interval" specifies the tick-marks on the axis. For example, you're collecting data by the hour, but want to show the scale in terms of days.

Additional Information

Formerly known as NETIQKB22183

When the aggregation function is used in a report, what it does is average the data points based on the aggregation level you set (hour, day, week). This makes the reports more viewable if users have collected large amounts of data over a period of time.

Example: user runs the NT_MemUtil knowledge script every 1 minute and lets it run for days. 7 days X 1440 minutes (1 day) = 10080 minutes/data points. Trying to fit 10,080 data points into a single graph is not practical as the data won't be readable (nor will it fit). By enabling the aggregation option, to say 1 hour, it will average the data points collected in each hour and then generate 1 data point per hour. This will make 24 points per day and 168 data points, which is more manageable and viewable in a report.
