fact

fact
Domain Migration Administrator 7.x

symptom

Error: 'Your system is running low on registry quota'.

cause

When translating security in 'Add' mode, Domain Migration Administrator (DMA) adds accounts to ACL's wherever a source account appears.  You have the option to translate security on the ACL's in the Registry of a computer.  It is possible that the registry size started at or near the maximum allowed by the OS and grew because of the security translation.  During the security translation, if the computer's registry size become too large, you may see the above error.  This message may also appear after translating security when the migrated user attempts to log on. This issue can also lead to the logged in user not having access to the previous user profile.  When this issue has been reported before, reviewing the pre- and post- migration profiles of user accounts with profiles on the affected workstation indicates that the post-migration profile has no data in it while the pre-migration profile is fully intact.

When translating security on user profiles, DMA must load the profile into the registry and add the target SIDs to the profile list found in the ProfileList registry key described above. This allows the operating system to locate the profile (NTuser.DAT) when the target account is used by the user.

fix

The issue can be resolved with the following steps:

  1. Increase the registry quota size of the affected machines by at least 20 MB.
  2. Run security translation in 'Add' mode on the affected machines.
